Taksim Square and Gezi Park

The design of  Taksim Square and Gezi Park consists of two strategies in urban scale and building scale. An infrastructure is recomended for Gezi Park, a baroque park which is located in a very important part of the city to assure a more active use by urban dwellers. Istanbul city where urban spatials can not be used because of physical and social barriers, city’s core converted to a recreational/ picnic area because recreational areas are important locations for socialization from ottoman era to present. Area defined by a blanket laid on the grass belongs to the person who laid that blanked for a while. This is a democratic use of precious urban spaces for low in-come people live outside the city. Furthermore, makeshift structures belongs to municipality are rearranged to contribute to the perception of Park and keep park more active.
